Cat’s-eye stones are often associated with awareness, protection, and discernment, ideas that echo the narrow line of light that seems to follow the stone as it moves. In quartz, the effect is softer than in more sharply defined cat’s-eye gems.

The Material

A Line of Light in Quartz

Cat’s-eye quartz displays an optical effect known as chatoyancy: a concentrated band of reflected light that appears to move across the stone as its angle changes. The effect comes from aligned internal structures that reflect light in a common direction.

In these beads, that moving line sits over translucent smoke, cream, gray, and warm honey tones. Some eyes appear sharper while others are more diffuse, so the phenomenon changes naturally around the strand.
